The Medoran Chronicles

All you need to know about

THE MEDORAN CHRONICLES

Author : Lynette Noni

Alex had always had an unusual life, as compared to everybody else. Her parents were avid archaeologists, and Alex had spent her whole life in solitude, constantly rushing from one end of the globe to the other. So when her parents decided to embark on their new journey, certain circumstances lead to Alex being left behind to start a new year at the International Exchange Academy. While her parents thought this would be a good chance for her to settle down, have friends and finally get a normal life, Alex thought otherwise. She was convinced that the entire plan was certifiably terrible. She had spent her whole life travelling, and now they expected her to stay put? Oh, come on!

Little did she know that it was going to be a whole lot weirder than she had actually anticipated.
Long story short, she opens the supposed doorway to the headmaster's office, only to get yeeted into oblivion and find herself in a forest. Sure, totally cool, happens to every random person on a daily basis, right?
But things reach a whole new level of insanity when it is finally revealed that she had just travelled across dimensions. Alex had somehow gained access to Medora, a world that existed as a parallel universe to the world that she had lived in. (And the world we all live in, which is basically this world. This isn't rocket science, people. I promise it will make sense soon.)
Cue the realisation that soon follows.
Alex had been called for a reason by an unknown entity of great power. But why her? And for what reason? Even worse, the only person who can supposedly take her back to her world, the elusive professor Marselle, is currently in absentia.
Alex must now enrol in Akarnae, an academy for the gifted, to await Marselle and attempt to learn all that she can about this whole new world she was stuck in. Alex then attempts to navigate through her new life precariously, gaining new friends and struggling through the tedious classes the Academy offered (which included gruelling combat lessons which regularly led to her being involved in near-death circumstances, and PE. Is PE your favourite subject, dear reader? Well, it won't be anymore.)
On top of this, she must also find out the true purpose of her arrival in Medora. After certain unsettling instances at Akarnae, as Alex starts putting the pieces together, it begins to seem as if the fate of all of Medora, and possibly her world too, lies on her shoulders.
But when it comes to it, will Alex be ready to do what needs to be done? Will she be able to accomplish what is expected of her?
Also, let's not forget that her parents, who are blissfully ignorant, will have to wake up to some startling truths. Awkward conversation ahead...
A brilliant mash-up of the world of Harry Potter and the Chronicles of Narnia, Alex's story will definitely give you an adventure you will not forget in a million years.

ALL BOOKS IN ORDER

  • Akarnae
  • Raelia
  • Draekora
  • Graevale
  • We Three Heroes (novella)
  • Vardaesia
The series consists of 5 books, excluding book 4.5 which acts as a novella. We Three Heroes, which was published the same year as book four, Graevale, acts as a novella exploring certain snippets that occur throughout the book from the perspective of the supporting characters. Certain events also occur years before the events on Akarnae, book 1.
The short story, A Very Medoran Kaldoras, was also published as an ebook in two parts. This story includes events which occur nine months after the events of Vardaesia. It acts as a final conclusion to the series. Even so, it must be mentioned that it does not contain any significant events pertaining to the series, but rather gives the reader closure as to what happens to all the characters after the events of Vardaesia.

My Comments

When I initially started reading Akarnae, to be honest, I was a little sceptical about the series. A few pages in, and the story seemed way too familiar to the Harry Potter series. A normal girl, summoned to another world, has an archnemesis, attends a school for the gifter, gains two trusty friends, the benign headmaster...Now, where have we heard that before? While the book itself was quite engaging and kept me on my toes, some of the glaring similarities were a little off-putting.  And I also felt like the main protagonist was always in the limelight and the supporting characters were just there, and didn't contribute much to the story.
But by the time was done with book one, I was increasingly invested in the story. But even then, I knew I had read better books before. So, as I began book two, I wasn't entirely taken in by the story. But all of that changed by the time I was reading Raelia.
The story was so fast-paced, and it took a whole new track. The book no longer seemed like a rip-off, but it had a unique story of its own. And boy, I was truly falling in love with the story.
The plot began to get heated, and as I finished Raelia, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Draekora. And this one was even better! The stakes were higher than ever, and I was completely enamoured. That's it. This series is GREAT.
I won't keep explaining my emotions as I went through each of them, but all I can say is that each book was better than the last. And it pretty much ripped my heart out and shredded it into a million pieces. I was completely taken in by Alex's story, and by the time the journey came to an end, I had a hard time saying goodbye. So, I hope you will enjoy it just as much as I did. With a strong female character, overwhelming emotions, amazing characters, vivid descriptions and unforgettable moments, this series had it all. The Medoran Chronicles is best suited for readers aged 13 and above, and readers who have read the classics like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson. If you're looking to embark on a new adventure, trust me, the Medoran Chronicles will definitely suit you.
