The Wings of Fire series (The Jade Mountain Prophecy)

All you need to know about

WINGS OF FIRE (Arc 2)

Author : Tui T Sutherland

Note: Arc 2 of the series occurs directly after Arc 1, so the second arc must be read after the first five books. Even this summary may have spoilers.

Peace has finally come to Pyrrhia after the long years of war, and the Dragonets of the Prophecy have come up with the best plan to unite all the tribes once again, by constructing Jade Mountain Academy, a school for all dragonets of all tribes, that will teach them about living together in peace and harmony. Which was so not easy, considering the animosity between the tribes which was still not completely eradicated.
But nothing is impossible for the heroes of the Prophecy!
Unfortunately, things are rarely so very easy, right?
Moonwatcher, a Nightwing who had been been hidden away and brought up in solitary, was quite nervous about the prospect of school. Because Moon had an astounding secret.
She could read minds, and look into the future.
Since the war, it had been proven that Nightwings didn't have any of the abilities, but when Moon discovered her unique powers at a young age, she knew she could never truly be normal. After all, she was the first Nightwing in generations to be born with powers! Not many would be friendly with Moon if they discovered her secret. But when her mother persuades her to try school, Moon is certain that this was a very, very, bad idea. And she is not entirely wrong...

Sharing a room with a bunch of young, noisy dragonets is bad enough, but it is SO much worse when you can read minds.

As Moon tries to navigate school life, trying to be one among the crowd and not get many enemies (and failing miserably), a new evil brews in Jade Mountain Academy, and it has it's eyes set on Moon and her unique capabilities.
Dragonets are getting attacked, and everyone's life might be in danger. But what will Moon do? Should she go back to the safety of isolation, or should she stay and help protect her newfound friends? But it doesn't look like Moon has a choice at all, as the dragon who might be the cause of all this has a special interest in her...
Turmoil and war may commence in Pyrrhia once more, and Moon and her friends might just be in the eye of the storm. But can a bunch of underprepared dragonets save the world?

My Comments

The Wings of Fire series is a remarkable series, and Arc 2 was definitely was one of my top favorites. As I started the second half of the series, I was skeptical if it would be just as engrossing as the first one, as the characters of the first book would appear rarely in this one, but I was extremely delighted to see that it was just as amazing, if not better! First off, the plot began with just the right amount of suspense and doubts, and various questions, and the twists were completely unforeseeable. The characters were also quite interesting with amazing backstories and well written character development. Sutherland rounded up the conclusion perfectly as well, and the writing did not feel rushed at all. Readers who are fond of books with fantasy fiction and action genre will be incredibly captivated with this series. It is best suited for readers of ages 10 and above, though it primarily depends on the readers choice.
