The Wings of Fire series (The Dragonet Prophecy)

All you need to know about

WINGS OF FIRE (Arc 1)

Author : Tui T Sutherland

Ever since the Sandwing tribe queen's demise, the peaceful land of Pyrrhia was ravaged by war among the seven dragon tribes, locked in a never-ending battle over an ancient, lost treasure. As winds of turmoil blew fiercely through out Pyrrhia, a secret movement, the Talons of Peace, sought to cease the war with the help of the Dragonet Prophecy, a fore-telling issued by the clairvoyant Nightwings.
In accordance to the prophecy, five dragonets from five different tribes were chosen and raised in a cave, against their will. After years of intense training and rules, the dragonets decide to escape the cave and the expectations piled on them, and travel in search of their families, and finally have the chance to explore the world outside.

But when a successful expedition outside their cave goes awry, the dragonets realize that they have escaped from the fire pan, just to fall headfirst into the fire.
Thus ensues a series of vigorous arena fights, shocking revelations, daring plans and help from the most unexpected places, as the dragonets plot to escape from their predicament and fulfill their true destiny.
Training time was over. Time to start making plans to stop a war.
But soon, the dragonets realize that they have more enemies than allies out there, and what has been been unleashed on the world could be far more than what the dragonets are ready for...
Oh, and the fact that there are tons of other dragons who would like nothing more than to see them all dead. But no pressure. Just a regular day for the Dragonets of the Prophecy.

My Comments

The Wings of Fire series is a remarkable middle grade fantasy fiction series for readers to enjoy. It may seem lengthy, but as the story goes on, the plot gradually becomes more engrossing and irresistible. With each arc and a new plot, we encounter a new set of characters, though the older characters also appear frequently through out the books. The characters are diverse, with intriguing pasts and motives. As each book is told from the perspective of each protagonist, we can understand and relate to each of the characters on a whole new level. The plot, though it progresses slowly at first, soon becomes more and more enthralling with each chapter. The harrowing twists and the riveting plot is what makes this series so captivating, and the diversity of the characters compliment the story even more. All in all, the Wings of Fire series is a must read fictional series for readers of ages 12 and above, though it mainly depends on the reader's interest.
