The Renegades series

All you need to know about

RENEGADES

Author : Marissa Meyer

The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies -a group of people gifted with powers-, rising from the ruins of society. Even years after the Battle of Gatlon city, they remained a shining beacon of hope and courage, and were tasked with maintaining peace and order throughout the world. While almost everyone looked up to the Renegades with shining eyes and hearts full of hope, not all saw them as the salvation of humankind.
16 year old Nova Artino, or Nightmare, as she was most commonly known as, had every reason to hate the Renegades. After all, her misplaced faith in the so-called saviors of the world had cost her family their lives. All her life, her one ultimate aim had been to overthrow the Renegades from the ground, and show the world that their trust in the Renegades was every bit as destructing and worthless as hers was.

Adrian Everhart was the adopted son of two of the founding members of the Renegades organization, and pretty much the golden boy. His ideas and faith in justice was perhaps more than his conviction in the Renegades' mission. Adrian was a Renegade himself, but he had a secret too, a secret that was once a mere thought, but now a fiery passion. Adrian was on a hunt for Nightmare, and would stop at nothing to catch her and reveal her true identity. He would stop at nothing to find out her connection to his mother's demise.
As Nova and Adrian's paths cross, Nova's concrete aim starts to crumble, and Adrian's faith in Nova strengthens. But Nova's allegiance is to a villain who has the power to destroy them both, and the world.
Long forgotten villains start rising in Gatlon, as Nova Artino and Adrian Everhart navigate their way through the world of deception and doubt. With every step Nova takes to succeed in her mission, her resolve seems to form cracks. Meanwhile, Adrian comes closer and closer in his hunt, but what he discovers may destroy him.
Gear up to dive into Gatlon City, where the world is on the brink of war and the fear that history might repeat itself, while the choice may ultimately come down to two conflicted teenagers. Yup, that thought sure is reassuring, isn't it?

My Comments

The Renegades trilogy is, hands down, one of the best plots I have ever read. Written by the same author of the Lunar Chronicles (refer my previous updates), I didn't have much expectations for these books to be as amazing as the Lunar Chronicles was, but my skepticism was soon blown away within the first few pages. Nova's character was definitely my favorite, as her conflicting emotions and doubts were portrayed impeccably, and the rest of the characters were also quite lovable and interesting. Adrian may seem a little bland from the top, but the writing made him out to be a very interesting and relatable characters.
Aside from the protagonists, the plot itself was riveting, and some of the moments kept me literally on the edge of my seat. It had unexpected twists, incredible side stories, and the touch of humor in the writing was charming. Altogether, the Renegades trilogy is best suited for readers of ages 13 and above, though it primarily depends on the reader's choice and preference.
