The Dragonwatch series

All you need to know about

DRAGONWATCH

Author : Brandon Mull

Note: The Dragonwatch series is a sequel to the Fablehaven series, and must be read after Fablehaven. Even this summary may have spoilers.

Its been four months since the Demon Prison was sealed by Kendra and Seth, with the help of the Knights of Dawn, the Fairy queen and her subjects and the Dragons of Wyrmroost. Kendra and Seth have finally settled down, without having to worry about demons, gruesome magical creatures and unanticipated betrayals. Everything has not quite got normal yet, with Seth's debt to the Singing Sister's looming in the distance, and Agad's bargain with the Dragon Monarch, Celebrant the Just. But things are not what they seem. It was the calm before the storm.
Agad's bargain with Celebrant had ended up with Celebrant being made a co-caretaker of the Wyrmroost Dragon Sanctuary, alongside Agad himself. But a skirmish at the sanctuary of Soaring Cliffs has Agad rushing to help, leaving an opening to the job of the caretaker of one of the most dangerous dragon sanctuaries in the world.
Which is when things went VERY wrong.
The co-caretaker must be a dragon tamer, and guess who qualified for the job!
Yup, the one and only Sorenson duo.
Finally, after Kendra's apprehension and Seth's over excitement at being asked to take up the job (more like Seth's anxiousness to have more near death experiences), Kendra and Seth are made caretakers of Wyrmroost, alongside Celebrant.
Now, Kendra and Seth must strive for the acceptance and respect of the inhabitants of Blackwell Keep, and strengthen the defenses of the castle and the thresholds of the sanctuary, to protect the outer world from the carnage and destruction the dragons can cause.
But Celebrant has other plans, and schemes to gain ultimate control to release the confines of the dragons by overthrowing all the sanctuaries of the world and wreck havoc. And guess what? His primary targets are the Sorenson siblings.
Will Kendra and Seth be able to win another war with such formidable adversaries? Or will they finally have to accept their defeat?
Not to mention that the Demon war itself had only been won with the aid of dragons...
The chances are not good, but Kendra and Seth have always been known to have an uncanny knack to beat the odds.

My Comments

The Dragonwatch series is, I can strongly say, one of the best sequel series I have ever read. Usually, sequels tend to not have the touch or perfection the original series had, but Dragonwatch quickly made me dismiss all my apprehensions. The plot was complex and engrossing, and the main antagonist was just as formidable and intimidating as the antagonist of the Fablehaven series. (That's right, I am trying to not reveal too many spoilers, but I suspect I'm fighting a losing battle.)
The series was just as irresistible as the Fablehaven series, if not more. It was immensely refreshing to see Kendra and Seth once again, and the characters! Kendra is absolutely my role model, with her responsible but fiery personality, and Seth is the ultimate troublemaker, out there to cause mischief, but grows on us as the story goes. The book is filled to the brim with action and suspense, and I must confess, one of the "villains" in the story may or may not be one of my favorite characters, absurd as it sounds.
The Dragonwatch series is best suited for readers of ages 9 and above, but as I so often say, it largely depends on the reader's choice. And of course, it must be read only after the Fablehaven series, or things will get VERY confusing.
