The Trials of Apollo series

All you need to know about

THE TRIALS OF APOLLO

Author : Rick Riordan

The story takes place several months after the events of The Blood of Olympus. The god Apollo lands on a dumpster in New York City (he is, after all, the god of dramatic entrances). He vaguely remembers being cast out of Olympus by his oh-so-awesome father Zeus as a punishment for a bunch of stuff he wasn't even responsible for. The mighty Zeus proves to be Daddy of The Year once again!
Much to his utter shock and dismay, Apollo realizes that he has been stripped off his immortality and given the identity of a mortal named Lester Papadopoulos (oh, the horror of the flab and acne!) and that in order to go back to his godly self, he must complete various trials and prove himself worthy.
Then, as a couple of mortal thugs try to mug him, he is saved by Meg McCaffrey, a bossy and extremely  scary  aggressive teenager with a dark past, who claims Apollo's service and binds her to him, much to Apollo's chagrin.
As the duo then venture to Upper East Side in search of a very prominent and familiar demigod who lives there (wink, wink), This demigod then escorts them to Camp Half-Blood, where Apollo then discovers that the Oracle of Delphi can no longer issue prophecies and that travel and communication do not work for any of the demigods. Apart from this, some of the campers have randomly disappeared into the forest.
Apollo then realizes that rescuing all the Oracles are his trials, that old enemies are afoot and an old rivalry has been awoken once more, he must undertake a long and tedious journey alongside Meg to free all the Oracles from the clutches of his arch nemesis and save them, to regain his immortality once again.

My Comments

The Trials of Apollo series is fun filled, satisfying and humorous. It wraps you in a blanket of nostalgia because all of the characters we have grown to love while in Camp Half-Blood make an appearance and we meet a lot of characters in the Percy Jackson series who we did not have the chance to see in the Heroes of Olympus series. It is very unique and amusing reading the books in the perspective of an Olympian, especially one as vain and narcissistic as Apollo and his character development over the series is very detailed and not rushed at all. We can see how the prideful Olympian had truly mellowed during his time as a mortal, and it is truly wonderful and unique to read about. Meg had also been a very interesting character to read about and we start warming up to her over the pages. All in all, the Trials of Apollo series is a truly sensational series and is definitely worth reading for all ages above ten.
