The Percy Jackson series

All you need to know about

PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS

Author : Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson, Twelve year old, was special. Or 'troubled' , as others suggested, which was probably why he was in Yancy Academy, a private school for troubled kids, which was his sixth school in six years. But when a field day to the Metropolitan Museum results in a very unusual encounter, Percy realizes that things are not what they seem. Something very strange is going on, something in which he unwittingly plays a major role in, according to his best friend Grover Underwood and his Latin teacher, Mr Brunner.
Then as a vacation to Montauk Beach goes VERY wrong, Percy is taken to Camp Half-Blood, which is, supposedly, a camp for people like himself. There, Percy finds out the real truth about who he really is, and all the strange things that had been happening to him ever since he was born. And most importantly, he finds out the real truth about who his father was, or rather, is.
And oh, Percy has also been accused of having stolen a lightning bolt, due to which he has been given an ultimatum that if he doesn't find the lightning bolt, the consequences will be bad. (emphasis on BAD)
As Percy then embarks on a quest with his friends Grover and Annabeth to prove his innocence, he uncovers his true potential and learns who his real allies are, in the longer run.

My Comments

The Percy Jackson series are phenomenal, extraordinary and action-packed, and is very appealing to even people who don't consider themselves to be ardent book readers. The books are from the perspective of a twelve year old boy diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia, but still manages to overcome all differences and become a true hero. The story has a humorous touch, which captivates both kids and adults likewise. Though the plot is narrated in a casual and hilarious way, the incidents in the book can, in some way or the other, resemble regular challenges in every person's life and is an example that no matter what comes your way, you can still be a hero and do heroic things in life, and you don't need to be a greek demigod to do so. Recommended for readers of above the age of ten, The plot is gripping and will have you roped headfirst into an extremely dangerous but incredible world of grotesque monsters and gallant heroes.
